Ebola outbreak: Spain investigates new case

File photo of Manuel Garcia Viejo at San Juan de Dios hospital in Lusar, Sierra Leone
Investigations are under way at a hospital in Madrid after a Spanish nurse became the first person known to have contracted the deadly Ebola virus outside west Africa.
The nurse had treated two Spanish missionaries who died of the disease after being flown home from the region.
Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama has announced plans to screen passengers flying to the United States.
Some 3,400 people have died in the outbreak - mostly in West Africa.
Barack Obama criticised foreign governments for not acting "as aggressively as they need to" against the outbreak.
"Countries that think that they can sit on the sidelines and just let the United States do it, that will result in a less effective response, a less speedy response, and that means that people die.
"And it also means that the potential spread of the disease beyond these areas in West Africa becomes more imminent," Mr Obama said.
First case The 40-year-old nurse was part of the Madrid team that treated Spanish priests Manuel Garcia Viejo and Miguel Pajares, who both died of the virus, Spanish officials say.

In Sierra Leone, Ebola treatment centres are full and patients are being turned away, as Tulip Mazumdar reports
The hospital Carlos III de Madrid where the priests were treated is reported to have had extreme protective measures in place including two sets of overalls, gloves and goggles.
The nurse is in a stable condition and has been moved from the Alcorcon hospital to a specialised unit at the Carlos III hospital.
The other members of the medical team are being monitored.
Manuel Garcia Viejo, seen in a file photo, was the second Spanish priest to be repatriated from Africa with Ebola
Manuel Garcia Viejo, 69, died on 25 September after catching Ebola in Sierra Leone.
Miguel Pajares, 75, died in August after contracting the virus in Liberia.
The nurse began to feel unwell on 30 September, but only sought medical advice on Sunday.
Critical but stable The likelihood of an Ebola outbreak in the US was "extremely low", President Obama said on Monday, but "we don't have a lot of margin of error".
Dr Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has ruled out banning flights to the US from countries suffering the outbreak, arguing the isolation would only worsen the outbreak within Africa and would deny those countries crucial aid.
Ebola spreads through contact with the bodily fluids of someone who has the virus and the only way to stop an outbreak is to isolate those who are infected.
There have been nearly 7,500 confirmed infections worldwide, with officials saying the figure is likely to be much higher in reality.
Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia have been hardest hit.
Thomas Duncan, the first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the US, is being treated at a Dallas hospital in isolation. He caught the virus in his native Liberia.
Mr Duncan's condition is critical but stable, doctors said on Monday.
He has been given Brincidofovir, a new experimental drug for treating Ebola which was developed in North Carolina.

10 ways to motivate your husband to take you on a date

Date nights are important, and they take a bit of strategic planning. If your honey doesn’t seem interested, here are some tips to help get him in the mood.
  • To motivate your husband to take you on a date, you may first need to consider the reasons why he isn't motivated to begin with. This will help you know how to get him in gear and actually want to go out with you. Understanding is the first step to making a change.
A wise man by the name of Carl Bard said, "Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending." This has real application in your marriage. If you want dates with your husband to happen, consider these suggestions that just might lead to a brand new, happier ending.
  • 1. Be understanding of his needs

He's tired. He's been working away from your home all day and it feels good to be home. When he walks through that door after a busy day at work, pay attention to him. Let him know how happy you are to see him. Hug him. Kiss him. A happy man with a happy wife will do almost anything to please her. Just give him a little time to unwind.
  • 2. Let him know you want to go out on dates

He may be clueless about this. You may be steaming inside about his insensitivity to your needs when, in fact, he isn't even aware of how important this is to you. Stop the internal steaming and do some gentle heart-to-heart talking to him about how you feel. By all means, don't start with "You never..." You won't get anywhere with that approach. You might start the conversation with a comment like, "Honey, there's something that's really important to me. May I share it with you?" Then tell him about your desires without being accusatory, acting hurt or acting neglected. Let him know you want to be with him and have some fun away from the everyday duties.
  • 3. Define what a date is

It's not an evening out with the kids. It's an evening out without the kids. He needs to know he's your priority, and this is one way to prove it. A date is stepping away from the usual into the realm of the unusual. It's taking a break from the stresses of life and just enjoying being with each other. Most men will welcome this idea.
  • 4. Think about the kind of date he would enjoy

If you want to go out to dinner, find a restaurant that offers some of his favorites. A friend said, "I know my husband loves barbecue, so if I suggest a place that serves the best barbecue in town, he's on board." If he gets his favorites sometimes, he'll be open to your favorites other times.
  • 5. Look pretty for the occasion

Dress up a bit. It's fun to be with a woman who cares about how she looks. Make him proud to have you by his side. That doesn't mean you have to get all fancied up every time you go out, but you need to change into something attractive, even if it's those trendy jeans with glitter on the back pockets. That alone will put specialness into the date. Make the man proud to be with you.
  • 6. Make it easy

Have a few plans in place, like a babysitter. If you wait until the last minute to call a babysitter you may be out of luck. Plan ahead. Make reservations at a restaurant or buy movie tickets online.
  • 7. Vary the type of dates you go on

If you always do the same old thing, it's going to be less inviting to go. Keep it interesting and within your budget. Consider the kind of movie he might enjoy. Tempt him with an action-filled adventure on the big screen. If he enjoys being in nature, consider a hike with a picnic at the end. If he loves sports, get some tickets to a game.
If you're thinking this is all about him, it's not. As you please him with things he enjoys, you will be surprised how much you start to enjoy them too. You will also find that, as you please him, he will be more open to pleasing you with your favorites. Being a happy couple is all about pleasing each other. Religious leader, Gordon B. Hinckley, said, "True love is not so much a matter of romance as it is a matter of anxious concern for the well-being of one's companion."
  • 8. Sometimes, include another couple you both enjoy being with

Check with your husband to see whom he would like to include. That's respectful. If it's a couple he enjoys, he'll be more inclined to go.
  • 9. Keep the conversation positive

If your husband thinks that, during the date, he's going to be inflicted with complaints about all the negatives that are going on, he won't welcome a date at all. You won't enjoy it either. Fill the conversation with positive talk.
  • 10. Pick a day of the week and make the dating consistent

Many couples like to go out on Friday night. It's something fun to look forward to at the end of a busy week. It may have to change to a different day, at times, but for the most part, if you choose a certain day and stick to it, it will become a tradition filled with happy memories.
Dating keeps the spark in your marriage. You may need to be the instigator at first. If you want him to initiate a fun date, just say the words. "Honey, surprise me with a date-night idea. I would love it." Then, when he does, you better darn well love it, or at least do your best to enjoy it. That will be motivating.

Dirty Secrets of actress Ini Edo's Marriage and Cheating

Nothing hides forever, hence it's good for people to just be careful. This is messy, not palatable to the ears at all. Following Ini Edo's post on her twitter page confirming her marriage break up with her husband of 5 years and her claim that she never cheated on him, the relatives of her ex-husband have responded to her claims. They say Ini Edo is a liar and also a serial cheat; with instances. Details below:
A close family source who is related to Philip spoke to a source on the condition of anonymity:
"Ini Edo should shut up about the marriage crash because with the way she is going by trying to paint Phillip as the wrong party, we may be forced to open her can of worms and it will not be palatable to her and her career.
"I can tell you that Ini Edo is a serial cheat who played the field behind her husband’s back for the duration of their marriage. Is she going to deny she was dating one Island big boy whose girlfriend organized her friends to beat her up and injured her?"
Another family source gave his own account:
"Bros, I can tell you that Ini Edo is not as innocent as she is trying to make people believe or think. We caught her on more than three occasion with three different men and she always begged us to forgive her.
"We can even mention some of the men she had affairs with including a South-South governor whose wife embarrassed her and ordered her security to send her out of the governor’s guest house in the state capital
"She should dare us and we will mention the name of the governor on the pages of newspapers."
Another source, a close friend of Phillip also added his voice to the contentious issue:
"Did she tell you how Phillip embarrassed her in front of her people when he went to collect his bride price? He told her people the kind of adulterous daughter they have and how she had been cheating on him right from the first day they were married.
"In fact, he did not want to collect the bride price but her people begged him to collect it as that would free her to get married to another man in the future."

Deulofeu has high hopes for Sevilla season

Deulofeu has high hopes for Sevilla season

The Barcelona loanee was pleased with how the Europa League holders dispatched Feyenoord, while coach Unai Emery revealed the reasons behind his squad rotation
Sevilla's Gerard Deulofeu has high hopes for the club this season after the Barcelona loanee starred in their 2-0 win over Feyenoord on Thursday.
Unai Emery's men triumphed in the Europa League last season and opened their defence of the trophy in equally victorious fashion thanks to strikes from Grzegorz Krychowiak and Stephane M'Bia.
Deulofeu, who is on a season-long loan at Sevilla, was happy with how they swep aside their Group G rival and is confident he will improve as a player away from Camp Nou this year.
"It was a tough game," he told reporters. "We knew that they are a strong rival. But we were able to get ahead on the scoreboard and bag all three points.
"It would not have been normal to come here and star in everything. I need to progress gradually. I trust myself and expect a lot from myself and the club this season."
Emery rotated seven players for the game following their weekend win over Getafe, which he justified by saying he wants his whole squad brimming with confidence as 2014-15 kicks into full swing, while urging caution over Deulofeu's performance.
"I wanted to give confidence to some players who are going to be important and are working hard," Emery said. "Competitiveness within my team is necessary during the season and it especially helps that we've come away with a win.
"Deulofeu has a lot of explosiveness, but he must choose what to do with the ball a bit better and communicate with his team-mates. He wants to improve

Police detonate two explosive devices at University of Uyo

The police command in Akwa Ibom said it had detonated two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) found in the male hostel of University of Uyo. Confirming the incident in Uyo on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Etim Dickson, told newsmen that the explosives were home-made.
Dickson, who said that the IEDs were likely produced by science students of the university, said investigations had commenced on the matter.

He assured the students on campus and parents not to entertain any fear about possible breakdown of law and order in the university community.
He said “the incident has been properly taken care of, we urge students and employees of the institution to go about their normal businesses.”
The IEDs were discovered by the campus security squad known as Operatives of Peace on Campus Initiative (PCI).
The Anti-Bomb Squad of the Nigeria Police had on arrival at the students’ hostel detonated the two improved explosive devices and conducted a search round the other hostel rooms.

SOME CHIBOK GIRLS MAY NEVER RETURN; OTHERS WILL PRODUCE BABIES FOR Boko Haram.- Obasanjo

SOME CHIBOK GIRLS MAY NEVER RETURN; OTHERS WILL PRODUCE BABIES FOR Boko Haram.- Obasanjo

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday dropped a bombshell on the fate of the abducted Chibok girls.

According to him, it was taking too long to secure the release of the schoolgirls and as such, some of them may never see their families again.

He also said that the fighters may have separated the girls as a strategy to deter any onslaught by security forces on their hideout.

Stressing that he had a way of communicating with the insurgents, the one-time Head of State announced that the federal government was yet to grant him permission to speak with them.

Obasanjo, who featured as a guest on the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation on Sunday, predicted that some of the girls would get pregnant, adding that they may be released in future as it would be difficult to cater for the babies while in captivity.

“I believe that some of them will never return. We will still be hearing about them many years from now, some will give birth to children of the Boko Haram members, but if they cannot take care of them in the forest, they may release them”, he said.

The retired General, who in June first publicly offered to lead negotiations to have the detainees freed, added that succeeding generations would continue to remember the girls who were abducted from their hostels on April 14.
